SBIF Sashakti Program: An initiative to take women towards respect and self-reliance

Background :

1- Women empowerment does not only mean providing employment, but also taking concrete steps towards giving them a safe, respectful and equal opportunity life.

2- SBI Foundation’s Sashakti Program (SBIF Sashakti) is bringing this idea to the ground.

As the CSR arm of the SBI Group, SBIF has already improved millions of lives. Now through the ‘Sashakti’ initiative, this organization is working to bring weak, deprived and exploited women into the mainstream.

Introduction – What is SBIF Sashakti?

The SBIF Sashakti program is a comprehensive and sensitive initiative, which aims to

“Take every woman towards security, respect and self-reliance.”

It focuses on two main areas:

1. Rehabilitation of women involved in or affected by sex work

2. Empowerment of vulnerable women to create livelihoods

Scope of work :

SBIF is inviting experienced NGOs from across the country working in the following two areas:

🔹 Intervention 1: Work with women involved in commercial sex work :

  •  Health camps – STI/HIV tests, mental health counselling, general checkups
  •  Linkages to government schemes, identity cards, insurance etc.
  •  Transition to dignified employment by imparting new skills
  •  Shelter homes and education support for children
  •  Digital learning, scholarships and drop-out support for adolescent girls
  •  Community-based awareness and leadership programmes

🔹 Intervention 2: Livelihood creation for vulnerable women :

(e.g. SC, ST, widows, unmarried, disabled, landless, BPL card holders, trafficking victims)

  • Training in driving electric rickshaws, digital literacy, customer service etc.
  •  Driving Help with licenses, loan facilities, financial counseling.
  • Connecting women to ride-hailing apps.
  • Creating safe travel routes.
  • Support groups, mentor networks, and community mindset change.

Key Focus :

  • Prevention and rehabilitation of sexual abuse

  • Promoting modern livelihoods like EV rickshaws
  • Safe travel for girls and working women
  • Strengthening women empowerment at the grassroots level

Eligibility Criteria :

  • Non-profit organization (Trust, Society, Section 8 Company) registered in India.
  • Experience of working with women empowerment or women involved in sex work for the last 3 years.
  •  Total income of at least ₹2 crore (for 3 years) for projects less than ₹1 crore in).
  • For projects above ₹1 crore, minimum total income of ₹5 crore (in 3 years).
  • The organization should not have any political or religious affiliation.
  • Minimum 4 board members and 5 permanent employees are mandatory.

  • 12A, 80G, NGO PAN, ITR (last 3 years)
  • Annual & Audit Reports (last 3 years)
  • MoA/Trust Deed
  • CSR-1
